Why I Run Therapy Groups
|
Dr.
Krugman is a clinical psychologist practicing in Boston and Newton,
Mass. He conducts a number of groups, as well as offering individual
and couples therapy. Dr. Krugman is on the faculty of the Department
of Psychiatry at the Massachusetts General Hospital, and teaches
a seminar on contemporary issues in psychoanalysis at the Center
for Psychoanalytic Studies at M.G.H. His areas of specialization
include adult development, gender issues, and couples relationships.
He has written on intergenerational transmission of trauma, group
psychotherapy, men's groups, shame and psychotherapy, and the role
of shame in male development.
Dr. Krugman's approach to group treatment seeks to create an atmosphere
in which members, over time, learn to develop authentic relationships
with each other and, in the course of this, grow increasingly comfortable
and confident in themselves. These groups build a sense of emotional
safety that supports personal honesty, directness, and encourages
change. The groups' focus move between members exploring their life
issues and histories, and dealing actively with each other in the
group.
