Interpersonal feedback:
How to give it and how to get it
Ten tips for getting the most
out of group therapy |
I believe that the potential for change is in everyone and that
Interpersonal Group Therapy provides a unique setting for people
to learn how to think, feel and behave in ways that work more effectively
for them. I am particularly interested in helping people develop
greater intimacy in their relationships and to overcome feelings
of anxiety, shame and depression. Most people joining my groups
have tried for many years to change and have found themselves stuck.
Having the support of others while also giving and receiving feedback
provides you with an opportunity to create a new direction in your
life. I have an in-depth explanation for how I lead groups called "Making Group Therapy Work for You" that is available on-line.
I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Temple University in
Philadelphia, am a Certified Group Psychotherapist and have been awarded the honor of Fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Association in recognition of my contributions to the field of group psychotherapy. I have been active in teaching, supervising and publishing
about group therapy and have been leading groups for over 25 years. During the 1980's I was the Director of Group Psychotherapy and the Director of Psychology
at Westwood Lodge Psychiatric Hospital. I have served on the Board of Directors of the Northeastern
Society for Group Psychotherapy and of the National Registry of Certified Group Psychotherapists.
I am one of the founders and a current co-President of Group Solutions
Network, Inc.
In addition to leading several groups, I also work with individuals and have a speciality in couples therapy. You can find out more about me at www.sorensentherapy.com.
